Axico Newsletter and updates November 2014

Hi there from the team at Axico (formerly G5 Financial Services),
Below are some links, updates, Christmas hours and important information for you.

We are the same organisation we always were (kind of) just with a “brand” new look. We are very proud of our new website full of tips and tools live for you to use at any time.

It’s nearing Christmas and shops are getting into full swing with their Christmas decorations up and many of you will be preparing for a well-earned holiday break.

Sum insured house insurance

Perhaps the biggest change in insurance world since the you- know- whats,  has been the move away from open ended insurance to sum insured cover for homes. Unless you tell your insurer otherwise (and we can do this for you IF you let us know) they will select a “default” sum insured for you based on a notational cost to re-build of $2,000 a square metre.

Everything that we are hearing suggests that this is too low as a re-build cost and:

  • It does not take into account the uniqueness of your own home.
  • Does not allow for separate garages and other buildings on site.
  • Does not allow for driveways, paths and fences.
  • Does not allow for demolition.
  • Does not allow for inflation.

We recommend that you review the sum insured of your home (if you haven’t already) to ensure that, in the event of a total loss situation, it is adequate and fully reinstates everything that you call “home”. The best way to do this is to:

  • Obtain a valuation for insurance purposes, or
  • A quantity surveyor’s report for insurance purposes
For a guide - Cordell is a provider of an online calculator that provides estimated typical building costs.

KIWIS AND SAVING
The most important thing for Kiwi’s saving for retirement is that they are kept informed of their savings as they grow. Even though the monetary reward is a long way down the track, knowing that the reward is growing each day is encouragement to keep on top of our savings.

IS YOUR INVESTMENT STYLE THE BEST FIT FOR YOU
Investments are like people, they come in all sorts of shapes, sizes and temperaments. These days there is a dizzying array of investment options available and it can be very difficult to know where to even start. Whether you are investing $1 or $100,000 “a dollar's a dollar” and we want to make sure that your savings are in the best fitting portfolio for you. That’s why it is important to adopt a systematic approach to investment decision making and to develop an understanding of what terms like “risk”, “diversification” and “volatility” really mean.
